one-channel video, color, 5:20 min, loop, 2017
The installation is the result of an improvised video production in front of the art work Europe Long Play by Santiago Sierra installed at Kronprinzenpalais in Berlin. Deliberately shot out of focus, the camera catches dancing specks of dust against a blurred background where a shape suggest the figure of an installation detail shot in a symmetric central perspective. The artist is interested in the meaning of dust as a connecting device between past and future as well as between people. Sierra’s sound installation, for which he re-mixed the national anthems of 27 EU member states, also acts as conceptual framing device. Just like the irregularly floating dust, the artist speculates, the current political situation of Europe is in a constant state of change.
